Once upon a time in 2001, a Danish death metal musician named Michael Poulson came to the realization that life in his death metal band Dominus was becoming a bore. He was tired of the same old death metal sound and death metal scene but he didn't want to stop creating edgy music so he grabbed a few fellow musician friends and formed the heavy metal/punk/rockabilly/groove metal band Volbeat and hence, a new chapter in rock and roll was born.

Volbeat first exploded onto the heavy metal rock and roll scene with the 2005 release of their debut album The Strength/The Sound/The Songs. This album was enormously successful in Denmark and was well received by both critics and hard rock fans alike. Then in 2007 came Volbeat's Rock The Rebel/Metal The Devil album which debuted at number one on the Danish Top 40 chart. In 2008, Volbeat released another hugely successful album Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood which was followed in 2010 by the album Beyond Hell/Above Heaven.

Since the release of their debut album in 2005, Volbeat has played in concert while on tour with legendary heavy metal bands like Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth and even has the distinct honor of playing the tremendously popular Denmark music fest known as the Rokslide Festival in both 2006 and 2007.
